Wedding DJ in Newport
Elation Entertainment is me, John, a wedding DJ and MC working out of Shirley, Massachusetts. Newport sits inside my standard service area, so there is no travel fee across the bridges. Ceremony sound, cocktail hour, reception, uplighting, photo booth, and an audio guestbook, from mansion ballrooms to lawns above the water.
Professional Wedding Entertainment in Newport and Aquidneck Island
Newport weddings happen on the water or in sight of it. A Gilded Age ballroom on Bellevue Avenue, a glass room out on Goat Island, a lawn on Ocean Drive with the surf underneath it: the settings are the reason couples come here, and every one of them carries a rulebook. The mansions run on house procedure. The waterfront rooms fight wind and open air. Guest lists skew travel heavy, most of them in town for the whole weekend, so the reception is the middle of a longer event rather than the whole of it.
Getting to Newport from Shirley
Newport is about 95 miles from Shirley, two hours on I-495, I-95 and Route 24 across the Sakonnet and Newport bridges, or Route 138 over the Jamestown and Pell bridges. Summer bridge traffic onto Aquidneck Island is the variable, and Middletown is a few minutes closer. I arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before guests. At a mansion that window covers a controlled load in, a walk of the ceremony lawn, and soundcheck finished before the house opens the doors.
Newport is part of my Rhode Island page, and of Rhode Island.

Wedding DJ Questions for Newport Couples
Do you charge extra to travel to Newport?
No. Newport is about 95 miles from Shirley, inside the roughly 120 mile service area, so nothing is added for the drive or the bridges. That holds across Aquidneck Island, Middletown and Portsmouth included, and it holds whether the wedding is downtown or out on Ocean Drive.
How do the Newport mansion sound rules affect the reception?
Most of the mansions publish their own limits: a level ceiling, a hard end time, and rules about amplified music outdoors. I read the policy before the date and set the system to it, then shape the last hour so the peak lands inside the window rather than after it closes.
How does summer bridge traffic affect your arrival time?
The drive runs about two hours from Shirley on I-495, I-95 and Route 24, or Route 138 over the Jamestown and Pell bridges. Summer traffic onto the island is the only real variable, so I build margin into it and still land 2.5 to 3 hours before guests.
Can you run a ceremony on an oceanfront lawn?
Yes. A lawn above the water needs its own system rather than a share of the reception rig, with wireless microphones for your officiant and readers so vows carry over wind and surf. Placement gets set during soundcheck, once I can hear what the water is actually doing that day.
