Wedding DJ on the Southern Maine Coast

The Southern Maine Coast is inside my standard service area, no travel fee. I am John Hathaway, the DJ and MC behind Elation Entertainment, based in Shirley, Massachusetts, and I cover ceremony sound, reception, uplighting, photo booth, and audio guestbook from York up through Kennebunkport.

Professional Wedding Entertainment in the Southern Maine Coast

A wedding on the Southern Maine Coast is usually a weekend, not an evening. Guests drive or fly in, take rooms at the inn, and most of them stay the weekend. The rooms follow the coast: an ocean-view ballroom up on the cliffs, an open-sided pavilion built for a clambake, a function room on the bluff above York Beach. Most of them put the ceremony outside and the dancing inside, which means two setups and one weather call. The ocean is loud, and the room after it is not. That contrast is what the night has to be built around.

Local insight: Wind off the Atlantic is the real variable at a clifftop or lawn ceremony, and surf gives the site a noise floor that never drops. The ceremony gets its own system, on wind rated stands, with wireless microphones for your officiant and readers.

Getting to the Southern Maine Coast from Shirley

York and Cape Neddick are about 80 miles from Shirley, an hour and 40 on I-495 and I-95. Wells runs about 90 miles and an hour and 50, Kennebunkport about 100 miles and two hours, toward the edge of the radius. I-95 north of the Hampton tolls in July and August is predictable enough to plan around. I arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before guests, which at a coastal resort covers the ceremony site outside, the reception room inside, and a soundcheck in both.

Common Questions

Wedding DJ Questions for Southern Maine Coast Couples

Do you charge a travel fee for a Maine coast wedding?

No. York and Cape Neddick sit about 80 miles from Shirley, Kennebunkport about 100, and all of it falls inside my standard service area of roughly 120 miles. There is no travel line on the package for a wedding anywhere along the Southern Maine Coast.

How does sound work in an open-sided clambake pavilion?

A pavilion with open sides has nothing to hold the music in, so it goes quiet fast at the edges. I set speakers to cover the tables and the dance floor rather than pushing level, run power from a confirmed drop, and keep announcements on a wireless microphone that carries outdoors.

Does summer traffic on I-95 change when you arrive?

It changes when I leave, not when I arrive. I-95 north of the Hampton tolls in July and August is predictable enough to plan around, so I build it into the departure and still get there 2.5 to 3 hours before your guests do.

What happens if the clifftop ceremony gets moved inside?

The venue makes that call, often the day of, and I set up for whichever site it lands on. Because the ceremony runs on its own system, moving it indoors changes the placement and nothing else. The reception room is already set and checked either way.
