Wedding DJ in New Haven
I am John. I run Elation Entertainment on my own out of Shirley, Massachusetts, as both the DJ and the MC. New Haven is the longest drive I make, roughly two hours and twenty, and it sits inside my standard area, so no travel fee. Ceremony sound, reception, uplighting, photo booth and audio guestbook, downtown or out on the Sound.
Professional Wedding Entertainment in New Haven and the Connecticut shoreline
New Haven is built around a green, and most weddings here happen within a few blocks of it. The downtown hotels put the ceremony and the ballroom under one roof, which suits a guest list that flies in for the weekend and never rents a car. A private clubhouse near the university gives you a house instead. Out on the harbor there is a modern boathouse with glass and water on three sides. Drive east toward the shore and the rooms change again: banquet houses looking straight out at Long Island Sound. This is a university city, so it empties in July and fills in May and October.
Getting to New Haven from Shirley
New Haven is about 126 miles from Shirley, roughly two hours and twenty: I-495 south, the Mass Pike west, I-84 southwest, then I-91 south into the city. That is the longest run on my calendar, so I treat the clean number as a floor rather than a plan. I-84 through Waterbury and I-91 at the Hartford end both slow on a Friday. Arrival stays 2.5 to 3 hours before your guests. Downtown that covers a service entrance, a freight elevator the hotel schedules, and a soundcheck finished before the ballroom doors open.
New Haven is part of my the Connecticut Shoreline page, and of Connecticut.

Wedding DJ Questions for New Haven Couples
New Haven is 126 miles out. Is that still inside your area, and does it cost extra?
It is inside, and it does not. My standard area runs about 120 miles or three hours from Shirley, whichever measure is honest for the route, and this one is honest on time. New Haven is 126 road miles and roughly two hours and twenty, so it lands inside with room left over. Nothing is added to the package for the drive, and that holds for the waterfront rooms at the east end of the city too.
Where do you park and load in for a wedding near the Green?
Downtown venues run on a loading door and a garage, not a parking lot. I get the vendor entrance, the elevator, and the garage from your coordinator well before the date, then arrive inside the window the hotel holds. The van gets emptied and moved out of the way early, so the room is set and checked while you are still getting ready upstairs.
Does a busy university weekend change your timing?
It changes when I leave, not when I am ready. Several weekends a year the hotels and the streets downtown fill for reasons that have nothing to do with your wedding, so I look at what else the city is doing on your date and plan the drive against the crowded version. Setup still starts 2.5 to 3 hours ahead of the first guest.
Can you run a reception in a restaurant dining room rather than a ballroom?
Yes, and it is a different setup. A dining room puts your guests within a few feet of the speakers, so the system goes small and aimed, with the level set for conversation at dinner and lifted only when the floor opens. Dinner music you can talk over. Dancing that still fills the room. Both come out of placement rather than volume.
