Northampton is a walking town, and weddings here use that. Guests park once and stay on foot: Main Street for the afternoon, dinner a few doors down, the reception a short walk from where they are sleeping. The room choices run from downtown to green space in a few minutes of driving, and the two feel nothing alike. A hotel ballroom or a banquet room off the old station puts the city right outside the door. Head north into Florence and the setting is a public park, with the ceremony under trees and a garden house holding the rest. Music taste here runs broad, which is a gift on a dance floor.

Local insight: Plenty of Northampton weddings put guests in a downtown hotel and the reception out in Florence, or the reverse. It is a short drive, but it is still a drive, and shuttles run on their own clock. I build that gap into the timeline so the room is playing when the first van empties.

Getting to Northampton from Shirley

Northampton is about 66 miles from Shirley, roughly an hour and a half, Route 2 west and then I-91 south. Most of it is the Route 2 stretch, which is a good road in daylight and a slower one in weather, so a winter date gets an earlier departure and the same arrival. Setup begins a full 2.5 to 3 hours before the first guest walks in. In a downtown hotel the building usually has another event on the same clock, so my setup fits around the house schedule. At the park the outdoor ceremony gets built first, then the garden house.
