Getting to Laconia from Shirley
Laconia is about 82 miles from Shirley, roughly an hour and fifty, I-495 north to I-93 north, then Route 3 and Route 11 into the city. The highway part is easy. The last stretch is lake road, and on a summer Saturday it moves at whatever Weirs Beach is doing. I leave with that built in. I am on site 2.5 to 3 hours before guests arrive. At a resort or a country club that window covers the load in, the room setup, and a soundcheck. On a boat it covers boarding, which happens on the vessel's clock rather than mine.

Laconia is about 82 miles from Shirley, inside the standard service area, so nothing is added for the miles. The drive is roughly an hour and fifty on I-495, I-93, and Route 3. It costs you nothing and it costs me an early departure, which is the trade I would rather make than start a setup rushed.
What changes when the reception is on a lake cruise?
The clock stops being negotiable. A boat leaves at a set time and comes back at a set time, so the first dance, the toasts, and the last song all get placed inside that window rather than around it. Gear goes on light and goes on early, before guests board. If the schedule slips ashore, the timeline absorbs it on the water instead.
Can the ceremony happen on the opera house stage and the reception follow in the same building?
That shape works well, and it changes the setup rather than complicating it. A theater is built to carry a voice from the stage, so the ceremony needs less amplification than an open lawn does. The reception then happens in a room the venue flips, which means my gear has to be placed once and stay out of the way while the room changes around it.
When do you get to a Laconia venue in July?
Earlier than the arrival window strictly requires. Summer traffic through Weirs Beach and the roads around the bay is unpredictable, and a resort or a club can have another event finishing before mine. I plan to be parked and unloading 2.5 to 3 hours ahead, and I leave Shirley with enough margin that a slow last ten miles changes nothing.
